Widely Acclaimed ITV Lost Treasures Documentary on the Vikings in the North West of England & Isle of Man, produced by Phil Hirst and Tom Holden of Planet X TV. Widnes, Cuerdale, the Halton Viking Cross, Heysham Hogback, Tynwald & the Manx Viking Festival, Meols, West Kirby Hogback, Thingwall, Brunanburh/Bebington Heath and a possible Dingesmere (Heswall Point) location. Intrepid Archaeologist Mark Olly and Steve Harding go in search of Viking Treasure. 1st broadcast on ITV1, Thursday 1st September 2005 at 7.30pm (& later extensively repeated on the History Channel), it was recorded after the recent identification by Steve & his colleagues of Dingesmere = Things mere in the epic 10th century poem The Battle of Brunanburh. Bebington Heath is explored as the site of the battle. Includes excellent re-enactment by the warriors of the Wirhalh Skip Felagr and weapons demonstration/ battle tactics by Mike Loades.
The broadcast includes the Viking Hogback at West Kirby (dated to ~1000AD) and closes with music from the 8 - 9 string Hardingfele (Harding fiddle) - the National Instrument of Norway (played by the Hardingkvartetten)- and reference to the ongoing genetic survey of men from old Wirral and West Lancashire families.... and ends with a poignant reminder to Mark!.
