New Zealand NZ National Anthem - Lyrics Video - Waiata Māori Song

The NZ National Anthem was originally written by Thomas Bracken (c. December 1843 – 16 February 1898) a notable Irish-born New Zealand poet, journalist, and politician. In 1875, he penned "God Defend New Zealand," which was later adopted as New Zealand's national anthem.

Thomas Henry Smith (22 November 1824 – 23 September 1907), an English-born New Zealander, served as a Native Land Court Judge and was renowned as a poet. He is best remembered for his Māori language translation of "God Defend New Zealand."

John Joseph Woods (1849 – 9 June 1934) was a distinguished New Zealand educator and songwriter. His claim to fame lies in winning a competition to set Thomas Bracken's poem "God Defend New Zealand" to music. In doing so, he composed the melody that would eventually become New Zealand's national anthem.
