Metro-North's Danbury Branch: 231 AND MORE on The Rails of Ridgefield

Описание к видео Metro-North's Danbury Branch: 231 AND MORE on The Rails of Ridgefield

For a short segment, the Danbury line discovers the outskirts of a small Fairfield County town: Ridgefield. It enters the town just South of Brancvhille station. The hamlet of Branchville is a 4 mile distance from the center of town. Due to this, and the threatening proposed rail line running through downtown Ridgefield, the Danbury and Norwalk railroad constructed a short branch (perspectively named the Ridgefield Branch) to the heart of town in 1870. Hence, the existing Ridgefield station was then changed to "Branchville," its current name. After being absorbed by the New Haven RR, the Ridgefield branch ran a few daily trains in each direction until 1925 when passenger service ceased. By 1964, the line was abandoned and the tracks were removed. In our video, we first see Metro-North 1860 (GCT to Danbury) arrive the historical station. Then further north at Topstone Road, although shot from the Redding side of the tracks, we see 231 again in Ridgefield, right on the border. LETS GO 231! Enjoy 1844 run by yours truly blast through as the New Haven Railroad visits its past.
