University Cinema Challenge

Описание к видео University Cinema Challenge

Alice Guy-Blaché? Andrei Tarkovksy? Audrey or Katherine Hepburn? Daniel Day-Lewis? Friends...? This video collates questions on cinema (film, TV & animation) from the British quiz show 'University Challenge' using excerpts from Ep1-21 of the 2018/19 season.

For educational & entertainment purposes only.

I wish there was a quiz show equivalent to University Challenge but one which was entirely dedicated to cinema, its history, directors, actors, filmmaking, costumes, set designs, etc, also involving subjects in which cinema interrelates with such as philosophy, literature, geography, politics, science & other artforms. Although UC does this already to an extent, a quiz show with specific questions aimed at a cinephile audience would be nice.

Instead of questions like “What medium did Alice Guy-Blaché work in?” and “Who made 'Stalker'?” It could be something like “'The Cabbage Fairy' is cited as one of the first narrative films made in 1896 by Alice Guy-Blaché. After directing and producing hundreds of films for the Gaumont company, she started her own company in 1910. What is the name of that company?” and “What were the three countries Andrei Tarkovsky spent in between his exile from the Soviet Union in 1982 to his death in 1986? (But even that may be too easy for a question on Tarkovsky).

The mascot could be a DVD that represents the collective personality and shared interest of the team. And they would come up with their own team names. (E.g – “The P.T. Wes Thom Andersons”)

Music rounds would be on scores, composers and songs featured in films (similar to how it already is on UC).

Picture rounds would have to be more niche than just name the film from the still... Maybe a close-up of an inanimate object or a certain detail specific to a film but not totally obvious? (E.g. Teams are shown a close-up of a unique piece of clothing).

Also, maybe a more hospitable host would be nice. Someone like Mark Cousins because of his knowledge on the history of cinema (and because I like his accent). However, in the meantime, enjoy this frankenstein version of a cinema quiz show and Jeremy Paxman's peculiar pronunciation of particular names.

I don't think you can join me next time so it's goodbye from this video - goodbye, and it's goodbye from me - goodbye.
(but suggestions, comments & proposed questions for this imaginary cinema quiz show are welcome.)
