Cholesterol is the most abundant steroid in the human tissue and body fluids.
It is synthesized in the liver and transported in the blood mainly in the form of LDL and HDL.
In blood, cholesterol is present in two forms:
Free (20 - 25%) and
Esterified (75 – 80%).
