Our Son's First BALINESE Ceremony (OTONAN Bali)

Описание к видео Our Son's First BALINESE Ceremony (OTONAN Bali)

If you've been following us for a while, you know we love Bali. Both Naia and Koji are born here, and we want them to have a connection to their Balinese neighbours, and an understanding of their culture and traditions.

An Otonan Ceremony is performed when the baby is 1 year old according to the Balinese Saka calendar. This is the equivalent of 210 days.

As reincarnation is an important part of Balinese Hinduism, babies are seen as being descendants of passed relatives. Babies are thus considered holy, as they are still connected to a higher realm.

The Balinese Otonan Ceremony is a marking of the baby's arrival into the human life, and for many Balinese babies, the Otonan is the first time the baby touches the ground or the floor.

This Balinese ceremony is also seen as a cleansing ceremony, where the baby gets to amend with evils in past lives, to create a better and more peaceful life in this one.

It was a great honour for us to have our Balinese neighbours join in for the ceremony, and we are glad our family got to have this beautiful experience.

Hope you enjoy this video. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Lots of love!
