Russia Tests Hypersonic Missile at NATO’s Doorstep and Shares the Video of Russian military exercises

The Zircon test is part of the Zapad 2025 joint maneuvers with Belarus, a week of military exercises aimed at assessing defensive and coordination capabilities between the two allied countries. This also serves to show that Russia's military force has not lost its strength.
The 3M22 Zircon/Tsirkon or the SS-N-33 is a maneuvering anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile developed in Russia. The Zircon’s estimated range is 500 km at a low level and up to 750 km at a semi-ballistic trajectory, but the state-owned media in Russia reports the range as 1,000 km. It’s a two-stage missile that uses solid fuel in the first stage and a scramjet motor in the second stage. The 3M22 missile will be incorporated into Kirov-class battlecruisers Admiral Nakhimov, Pyotr Velikiy as well as other use cases.

Admiral Gorshkov (417) is an Admiral Gorshkov class frigate of the Russian Navy and the lead ship of the class. The ship is named after Hero of the Soviet Union Sergey Gorshkov.

The vessel was laid down on 1 February 2006, launched on 29 October 2010 and commissioned on 28 July 2018 with Russia’s Northern Fleet.

Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates displace 4,500 tonnes and can develop a speed of 29 knots. They are armed with P-800 Oniks and Kalibr anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles, and the Poliment-Redut air defense missile system.

The Russian Navy expects to arm all the new and modernized surface ships and nuclear-powered submarines, including Project 22350 and Project 22350M frigates, the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruisers Admiral Nakhimov and Pyotr Veliky, Yasen-class submarines and Lider-class nuclear-powered destroyers slated for construction with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles.
