Wildfires are sweeping across southern Europe, leaving towns and villages devastated. In Spain, soldiers have been called in to support exhausted firefighters as dozens of major fires rage across the country.

In Portugal, thousands of fire crews are battling blazes on the ground, while in Italy, Turkey, Greece and Albania, authorities have battled fast moving fires that have forced evacuations, destroyed homes and ruined livelihoods.

The searing heat and dry conditions are fuelling some of the worst wildfires southern Europe has seen in years, driving families from their homes and putting lives at risk.
