SMU is honoured to have hosted His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany as our 9th distinguished speaker for the Ho Rih Hwa Leadership Lecture Series on Thursday, 2 November 2017.

H.E. Steinmeier delivered the eagerly anticipated lecture to the 800-strong audience, including Singapore's 7th President and SMU Honorary Patron Dr Tony Tan and Mrs Mary Tan, Singapore and Foreign Ambassadors, the SMU community, as well as principals, teachers and students representing the various Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and international schools. He opened his inspiring address with a gripping discussion on fear and uncertainty – particularly, of what the digital revolution and the recent political shifts may spell for the future. Compelling the audience to reimagine an ideal society where no one is left behind, H.E. Steinmeier shared his firm belief in an open and interconnected world that can be achieved through constant innovation, strong technological stewardship and a highly skilled workforce.
