In 1989 while working as a producer at WCFC TV-38 Chicago, TV-38 President Jerry K Rose, his son Trevor, cameraman Clark Gray and I took a little trip to the Negev Desert in Southern Israel. Basically we goofed off for a few days on a camping trip with two Israeli guides, Shimon and George. Of course, in those days, the Betacam weighed about 20lbs with batteries, a 20lb tripod and other support gear. So, Clark and I worked a bit along the way! The guides really knew their business and took us all over finding hidden wells, deposits of Elat Stone, and even some Ibex in the wild.

Initially we tried to get into Egypt to record this video. The premise was to follow in the footsteps of the wandering Children of Israel making their way through the Sinai Desert after leaving captivity. Of course, the Egyptians were having none of it, and denied us permission to cross into their territory at the Elat crossing. No matter, we just went into the desert on the Israeli side and had a good time anyway.
