The First Branch of the US government and many similarly governed countries is the Legislative Branch

The Legislative branch is made up of two chambers. The US HOUSE of representatives
And the US Senate. They are collectively called congress.

The Legislative Branch has a primary responsibility of writing federal laws and appropriating federal funds.

In the US the President who heads the executive branch also has a large role in lawmaking.

Legislations must receive a majority of votes in both chambers of congress and then be signed by the president in order to become. The President can also veto laws and block them from coming into effect but congress by a two thirds vote in each chamber can override a veto.

The congress also has a few other powers. It can propose to the state’s constitutional amendments by a two thirds vote in each chamber. It can also impeach and remove the President, Cabinet officials, Judges, and Justice. Specifically the US House can impeach any of these officials by majority vote and the Senate then holds a trial and may by a two thirds vote remove them from office.

The US Senate also has the power to confirm or reject Presidential nominations to both cabinet positions and the judicial branch.
