I just thought this software was super cool and wanted to show you. It's called Serenade III. It's a free Reaktor instrument that lets you play a violin/viola/cello/bass by gesture. No samples, just synthesis.

Using a Leap Motion Controller, you can bow the instrument like you would a real violin/cello and capture the performance in a way that you can't quite do as easily with samples.
