On December 2, 2023, at approximately 8:25pm I, Trooper Surrette, witness a white passenger car in the middle lane traveling South on Interstate 49 near Mile Marker 77 at a high rate of speed. I activated my rear stationary radar and clocked the suspect vehicle at 110 miles per hour in a marked 70 miles per hour zone. I turned on my lights and activated my emergency lights and siren, as I merged onto the Interstate, I began to attempt to catch up the suspect vehicle, it was abundantly clear the suspect vehicle was fleeing.
As the suspect vehicle and I came around the corner before Mile Marker 76, I witnessed the suspect vehicle travelling 120 miles per hour in the middle lane with my same direction moving radar. The vehicle exited at Mile Marker 76, the suspect vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at Interstate 49 off ramp and Puppy Creek Road. The suspect vehicle turned South onto Puppy Creek, the suspect turned East on Wagon Wheel failing to stop at a red light at Puppy Creek and Wagon Wheel intersection. The suspect vehicle failed to stop at the red light at Wagon Wheel and Interstate 49 North on ramp as the vehicle turned North onto Interstate 49, I was able to notify dispatch at this time I was in pursuit of a white passenger car possibly a Honda. The suspect vehicle continued northbound and began to exit at Mile Marker 77 northbound. The suspect vehicle pulled to the right side of the roadway and came to a stop.
I advised dispatch the vehicle was an Acura TSX white in color with an Arkansas License Plate of AMG21P. I advised dispatch the vehicle was coming to a stop, as the vehicle stopped, I exited my patrol unit and began giving the driver instructions. I instructed the driver to turn the vehicle off, the drive complied. I instructed the driver to exit the vehicle and face away from my voice, the driver complied. I instructed the driver to face away from my voice again, the driver began to walk away but stopped. I instructed the driver to walk back towards the sound of my voice, the driver complied. I instructed the driver to pull his shirt up in order to reveal his waistband to ensure he did not have any firearms. I instructed the driver to get on his knees and lay flat on the ground with his hands out to his side, the driver complied. I informed dispatch that I had one suspect at gun point, I held that position until Trooper First Class Hill arrived on scene.
I informed TFC Hill that I had cleared the vehicle, but the driver advised he was the only person inside the car. TFC Hill placed the suspect in handcuffs as I held lethal cover on the vehicle. Once the suspect was in handcuffs and in custody, I ensured the vehicle was free of other occupants. I placed the suspect in the back passenger seat of my patrol unit. I began an inventory of the vehicle and located a wallet with the Driver’s License of the suspect with the name Dalton Reed DOB: 3/12/2003. I transported Mr. Reed to Benton County Sheriff's Office, during the transport Mr. Reed stated he was fleeing due to his girlfriend cheating on him and he wanted to die. Mr. Reed thanked me and TFC Hill for not allowing him to kill himself. I informed Benton County Detention Center of Mr. Reed’s suicidal comments and they handled accordingly. I returned to my normal duties without further incident. Mr. Reed was held for bond hearing on the following charges:
Fleeing with substantial risk of death or injury – 5-54-125
Reckless Driving – 27-50-308
Speeding 15+ - 27-50-302
Fail to Stop at Red Light X2 – 27-52-107
Fail to Stop at Stop Sign – 27-51-601
