Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das reacted strongly after seeing stale bread and unhygienic food items at local food stalls, reportedly getting angry and criticizing the poor quality of food being sold. The mayor’s comments reflect concerns over food safety and hygiene standards in the city, particularly in public food outlets.

The mayor said, “What kind of mess is this… look at the stale bread and food! Are you letting people eat this? This stale food…,” expressing her frustration over the unhygienic conditions observed by civic inspectors and herself.

This comes amid ongoing food safety enforcement drives by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to crack down on unhealthy and stale food at public stalls and vendors — part of wider efforts by the civic body to protect public health and enforce hygiene regulations.
