Вот ведь как… явилась первой! - As it turns out… I arrived first!
Надо было опоздать, где-нибудь в сторонке встать… - I should have been late and stood somewhere on the side.
Что поделать - сдали нервы. - What can I do? I lost my nerve.
Шла, как будто на экзамен, с пятницы считала дни. - I was going as if to an exam; since Friday I've been counting days.
Как же: встреча под часами. - Just as I thought... We did agree to meet under the clock.
Под часами... вот они. - Under the clock... Well, here is the clock.
А его на месте нет! (Как некстати нервы сдали!) - But he’s not here. (It was the worst time to lose my nerve.)
Ну, еще бы, на свиданье не была я столько лет! - Well, of course, I haven’t been on a date for so many years.
Даже страшно подсчитать. - I’m scared even to count.

Что ж, подождем его, я очень современна! - What can we do? Let’s wait for him. After all, I’m a modern woman!
Порой берет тоска: ведь нужно быть, к примеру, - It’s just sometimes that you get hit by sadness: in any case, you need to be, for example,
кокетливой (слегка!) и неприступной (в меру!). - flirtatious (slightly) and impregnable (to an extent).
Все успеваешь ты: казаться беззаботной - You can manage everything: Seem carefree,
