The 3D animation shows known recorded mine workings within the Camborne/Redruth/Gwennap Mining District in Cornwall, UK. The models have been constructed from abandonment plans held in the County Record office and from private archives that were made accessible for the project. The models were constructed over the period 1991-2015.

The original mine plans were photographed or scanned into AutoCad and traced. From these tracings, the mines were then georeferenced to the Ordnance Survey National Grid. The georeferenced models were turned into 3D solids and elevated into the correct location relative of Ordnance Datum (Sea Level). 3D solids were then transferred to 3D Max for the creation of the animation.

Each mine is normally given a separate colour to distinguish it from any others close by, all the shafts are normally yellow in colour and adits are cyan. Buildings shown are in light grey or green (industrial) and date from 1908 – 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey. Mine names are shown above the mines with crossed hammer symbol.
