Walking the Landscape: Strathmore

Graziers are working with NQ Dry Tropics to gain a common understanding of gullies including the causes of their erosion, how best to fix them, how to maintain them over time, and how much that might cost.

In this Walking the Landscape video grazier Paul Fryand soil conservation officer Bernie Claussen discuss the challenges of repairing and maintaining large-scale remediated erosion sites. Paul believes it will be an ongoing activity to ensure the integrity of the works for the long-term.

The Burdekin Major Integrated Project Gully Maintenance and Monitoring project is evaluating the most cost-effective methods for reducing the sediment and particulate nutrients generated and delivered from gullies.

Ongoing monitoring is needed to test assumptions on how long treatments will last, required level and frequency of maintenance, and whether reduction in fine sediment exports continues.
