But now, many clubs and race boats from other districts are competing in such competition. A Race boat or club is one of the pride of the place/ village. Snake Boat(chundan vallam) are the most important Race boats in Kerala. What's special is that they can create waves of excitement in the audience. Kerala Jalotsavam (kerala boat race) is the only game in the world where the most number of participants in a team. More than 100 people compete in one boat at a time.

Boat races In Kerala are something unique, something incredible and something #adventurous that speaks volume about the culture and heritage of this state. Once confined to only a couple of districts, now the boat race frenzy has been spreading across the whole state. Many kinds of paddled longboats, namely Chundan vallam, Palliyodam, Veppuvallam, Iruttukuthi etc participate in these races. The boat races and these race boats have a lot of rich history and traditions which are unique in its own way. #groupntbr is an initiative to create enthusiasm and to inculcate the spirit of boat racing amongst the people. Our aim is to collect, archive and provide the history related to boat races and also provide updates about the different boat races happening in Kerala. Started as a Facebook group by a group of boat race enthusiasts back in 2011, Our mission of popularizing the #boatraceofkerala among people will continue.
