On July 29th, 2020, I caught some really cool switching operations on CN and the Greater Winnipeg Water District Railway in the St. B. area.

We start out at the GWWD's St. B Station/Yard where we get a look at the old St. B. water tower and see one of their two MLW RS23's heading toward the yard gate. Today they used 202, a former DEVCO Rwy unit from Nova Scotia. Devco Railway operated as an unincorporated department within the Coal Division of the Cape Breton Development Corporation. Same story goes for their other unit, 200. (201*, not seen in the video is former BC Rail MLW S-13 number 1001, and 8018 is a former CP MLW RS23; both are used for parts).

Funny thing is, the same truck (or at least a truck from the same company) blocked my shot of the engine at the beginning and end of the video. I guess I set up in the wrong place both times, lol.

I met up with The Cando Railfan who joined me on this railfanning adventure for most of the day. his video should be out shortly. Anyway, we continued east along the GWWD line and saw CN 7044 and 1409 switching a CO-OP facility near Turenne street. we quickly went over to Marion to see the local leaving the spur and going past a neat crossing with one articulated gate.

fun fact: the spur the CN units were on was once owned by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, one of the big four railways of Manitoba in the early 1900's. It served a livestock yard at the south end, connected to the GWWD's line and ended at their mainline going east, which turned into the National Transcon. Rwy. It's now for the most part just used from the CN Sprague (St. Boniface spur) to the GWWD's line. the rest is abandoned (including the mainline east of 'X Track').

Taylor and I continued east to the CN-GWWD interlocking (diamond), but I'll upload that another time. He then left for home, but since I havent seen the GWWD in a long while, I just had to wait around to catch them on their return trip from the Deacon Water Treatment Plant.

I saw headlights coming down the slightly overgrown track and raced to the CN interchange (Ex-GTP spur) to watch them grab some tank cars CN brought them earlier.

The GWWD did their thing at the interchange and brought their new tanks into the yard from CN and left the full ones to be pulled out the next morning by CN.

The train then continued on towards the end of the line (the yard) and I caught them crossing Van Bellingham ave. Fun fact; the track that the GWWD crosses was once part of the long 70 mile long Victoria Beach Sub (later part of the pine falls sub, now the shell oil lead). We also get a look at their 'dwarf' signals at the interlocking. Not sure if I caught it on film but they did change from yellow to red while I was there*.

The train dropped off the empty tanks on the runaround track and the 202 headed into the yard for the day. And that one tanker truck got in my shot and stopped just like in the beginning of the video! ...Or maybe I cut it out in the beginning clip, not sure, lol.
