Rob: Hey everybody. It's Rob here etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the PTC custom fit engine air filter on our 2019 Toyota Highlander. Now checking and changing your air filter when it's dirty is very important because it's going to make sure we get the most amount of fuel economy and performance out of our Highlander. And I realize a lot of people don't remember to do that. We remember to fuel up.

Maybe we get a reminder on the dash change our oil, but a lot of times the filters go overlooked. And really it's a super simple process. It's really easy to do at home and there's really no reason to pay anybody to do it. We've all been in that situation when we go get an oil change. Somebody comes out, "Oh, hey, your filter is dirty.

We can replace it for you."Well, yeah, it's pretty convenient then. But at the same time, you can save yourself some money because checking it and even changing, it takes less than five minutes. It's one of the easiest filters to get to and change on our Highlander here. So in fact, let's go ahead and check our filter. And if we do need to change it, we have a new one here.

We'll start by opening up the hood. We're going to go over to the driver's side and we'll find our air box right by the firewall here. Again on the driver's side here, we're going to have these two tabs, just loosen those up. And we'll want to lift up on this side of the box and kind of tilt it like this, and then slide towards the driver's side. Because there was a couple of tabs over here and we don't need to pull real far up just enough so we can get access to the filter and we can pull it out.Now this isn't too bad.

I mean, you can see a little bit of discoloration and if you open up the pleats, there's a little bit of dirt in there, but I would say this is still a serviceable filter, but again, you saw how quick and easy it is. So there's really no reason to pay somebody, especially when it only takes a few seconds. And we checked it and realize it's good. You put the filter back in place. And then again, these tabs right here, want to make sure they slide into those notches. So we get a good seal on our air box and the filter will actually do its job. Angle it back in place and then just put those clips back in. So again, it really is that easy. So I recommend checking and changing your air filter maybe once every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, just to make sure that it is performing the way we want it to.
