New York Times Crossword, Sunday 2/28/21:
For some reason today's grid felt like a bit of a slog. The opener was super strong with a great clue for TREBEK (Man who had all the answers?). The theme seemed solid enough. I think my favorite theme fill was BOTTOMLESSPIT ("Where the nudsit club orchestra plays its concerts?"), but EXPOSURETIME was a little weak. There weren't very many long fills that made me smile. I did like SOLVENT and its cluing.

A decent number of proper nouns that I simply didn't know (OPIETAYLOR, ENOS Slaughter, Nellie and EMILE, Nicolas ROEG, LISA Vanderpump, LAR Lubovitch). I did know Syngman RHEE, thanks to a very cursory knowledge of Korean history. Also shoutout to the UCSD Tritons, who are in fact now in the BIGWEST.

Crosswordese of the day includes RHEA (a large flightless South American bird) and its homonym RIA (an inlet), both of which you should know on crosswords. We also had the poetic EEN for evening and the famous old boarding school ETON.
