Zoom session, featuring world class rider Nicki Thorne talking about her endurance adventures across the globe and in particular, her experience of competing in The Tevis Cup – the Great Western Trail!

Having had an obsession with horses from being a little girl, Nicki began competing in earnest in 2011, training her horses and herself to be able to tackle 100 miles in a single day. She won second place in her first ever 100-mile ride in 2013 and by the following year was the top endurance rider in the world!

She has travelled the world extensively, along with her husband Andy, to jointly build his shipping business (Kestrel) into the global enterprise it is today and she has always made sure that every destination included a way to ride. Over the years, she has developed many key friendships and an introduction to Heather and Jeremy Reynolds of Tevis fame, marked her new dream and the exciting start of her Tevis journey.

Nicki has been lucky enough to race and ride in many countries across the world - Europe, the USA, South Africa, Japan, and her “second home”, Argentina, where her breeding project began.

She says “it’s all about the relationship with the horse. I’m always conscious that we’re asking them to do this unbelievable thing. I talk to the horse all the way through.”

And through it all, the Tevis Cup has always called out to her………….…!
