The strongest generic vampire in Skyrim challenges the leader of Castle Volkihar to a duel! In a basic 1 vs. 1, the Nightmaster Vampire wins with no issues, as we've seen in an older video. But this time, Harkon has the powers of the Vampire Lord on his side, including the abilities to teleport, resurrect minions, and summon multiple gargoyles from statues. He can also set up a protective barrier which makes him immune to all attacks from outside, allowing him to regenerate a large amount of health.

Before recording this battle, I put the Nightmaster against Vyrthur's boss room to see if it could make for a double episode, like with the Ebony Warrior a while ago. The Nightmaster died surprisingly quickly from the overwhelming amount of Frozen Chaurus and Falmer without even getting close to reaching Vyrthur.

After that, I had doubts if he could seriously threaten Harkon with all his boss mechanics. It turns out that the Nightmaster is significantly better. If he goes for melee, he eradicates everything in his path, and forces Harkon into the next phase with just a few hits. Even if the Nightmaster focuses more on magic, he can get in trouble, but he typically still outperforms Harkon and his troop. Harkon's healing is better, but his damage is too low, while the Nightmaster's consistent shock and Drain Life attacks allow him to take the upper hand.

Note that this is a Breton Nightmaster, and the increased magic resistance is a huge bonus against the magic-focused Harkon. Other Nightmasters don't seem to be that much better than Harkon, if at all. I tried a Nord Nightmaster, and he got a few losses too. That's a fairly slow fight though, and with the bugs going on, it would take hours to find some consistency in the results; too much just for a random test.
