BLAST FROM THE PAST

A sad reminder of Charley Wood
Where fifteen acres of fun once stood
Silence replaces amusement sounds
Nature's debris blankets the ground

Who could forget the keystone kop
The opera house and antique props
The meller dramas and ice revue
Clowning around with vaudeville fools

Only haunts remain of his olde-time village
Vintage fixtures systematically pillaged
Every attraction has been auctioned off
Only memories remain to replace the loss

A few structures are still intact
Each stirring-up fond flashbacks
But, the 1890's atmosphere
Has sadly (too suddenly) disappeared

Such a shame how the times have changed
Now longing for days that no longer remain
Longing for days that no longer remain

Upstate New York never had it so good
A wild-west town in our neck of the woods
Cowboys and Indians and ruthless outlaws
A rodeo arena with stables and stalls

Blacksmith, saloon, and a train station
Swift Eagle's tales of the Indian Nation
The stage coach, locomotive, and covered wagon
A sheriff with all the cap guns you could imagine

Nearly forty years, Art Benson roamed his frontier
Along with his cast in uniformed gear
The wild west now deserted, his frontier a ghost town
A blast from the past is crumbling down

Both Gaslight Village and Frontier Town
Classic landmarks, both shutdown
The nostalgic charm remains no more
Their vacancy (sadly) screams eyesore

Such a shame how the times have changed
Now longing for days that no longer remain
