Описание к видео Spree Killer Claims Self Defense In Court

Clay County, Florida, September 2008

Four people were killed, so now 29-year-old Gary Bernard McCray Jr. gets death four times over.Circuit Judge William Wilkes sentenced the Jacksonville man to four death penalties in a 2004 drug-house shooting attack on Blanding Boulevard. It was perhaps Clay County's worst act of violence this century. In September, McCray was convicted of fatally shooting four people he thought had identified him in an earlier drug raid. John Ellis, 51; Phillip Perotta, 53; Robin Selkirk, 45; and John Whitehead, 37, were killed in the Orange Park drug house.McCray's DNA was on a black hooded sweatshirt found at the scene. He then paid some friends $400 to take him to Tallahassee, according to Times-Union coverage of the trial. This morning, family members of two victims said they were struck that McCray showed no remorse."It's the end of a long process," said James Perotta, whose twin brother was one of the victims. "He died, a part of me died."For the hearing, McCray showed little emotion, twisting slightly back and forth as he stood listening to Wilkes pronounce the four death sentences and adding a life sentence for use of a firearm in all four murders.Wilkes said McCray knew what he was intending and approached the house from the rear then looked in a window to make sure his targets were inside before going on a "killing spree.""May God have mercy on your soul," the judge said at the end of the 20-minute hearing. The trial, originally scheduled for March 2006, was delayed when McCray was declared unfit to proceed and sent to a psychiatric facility that January.Other delays occurred because of courtroom outbreaks in which McCray yelled objections and demanded his attorneys be fired. At his trial, McCray took 45 minutes on the stand to list what he saw as unlawful actions and argue that pieces of evidence were illegally obtained. In late September, jurors listened to an hour of McCray rambling about how their trial verdict was wrong before they recommended he face the death penalty. Before the deliberations on the death penalty, Wilkes told the jury he would abide by their ruling except in a rare circumstance.
