"It's the 20th year in Barcelona and it's been quite a journey. When you look back 20 years ago, we were barely into 3G, no iPhone, I think we had, what did we have? We had the Motorola V3, that was the hot phone at that time and look at now, look at the conversation how it's evolved. What is beautiful about these 20 years is that this event has continued to enrich itself in all its dimensions. We've got 1,700 speakers this week and they're going to be talking about things that we weren't talking about at that time. We're going be talking AI, we're going talking about non-terrestrial networks, we are going to be talking about quantum. The conversation has moved on. We have a start-up event Four Years From Now, and those start-ups are doing things that were unimaginable 20 years ago. So, so I think this. That's the beauty of this journey is that every year is different, new things to see, new things to visit."

19. SOUNDBITE (English) Vivek Badrinath, Director General, GSMA:
"I think this paradox is striking. We've never been so important. You will remember the COVID era. We're now close to 7% of the world's GDP. We're a huge industry serving 7 billion people. We've still got 3 billion people that are under mobile coverage, but are not using the mobile internet. So, there's still a way to go. But it's fair to say that this has become a very important part of part of the fabric of society. It's the digital underpinning or foundation of many industries. In fact, when you see this event, more than half of the people attending are not from mobile. So, it's a misconception that this is the mobile industry talking to itself. It's really about all these industries that use connectivity to deliver greater outcomes."
