December 6, 2018 - Tasting Italian varietals from the vineyards of Simone Capecci, honored with one of the highest ranked awards in making-wine - the Tre Bicchieri. Tasting notes below!

Ciprea:
100% Pecorino
Pecora means sheep in Italian. This varietal was the first to ripen and the sheep would come down and eat it before winemakers had a chance to harvest. It was rapidly going extinct. The Italian government stepped in and saved the last few rootstocks and gave them to the Capecci family. The resurrected the entire varitial winning them one of their three Tre Biccieri awards.
Ciprea is the name of a seashell that was used by the Piceni tribe (the people that lived on the land 300 years ago) as jewelry on a necklace or bracelet.

Picus:
60% Montepulciano / 40% Sangiovese
Picus is Latin for woodpecker. It refers again to the Piceni tribe. It was a symbol of their culture and the woodpeckers are found all across this region.

Qvinta Regio:
100% Montepulciano
It was the name used by the Romans to refer to this area: The fifth region of the Empire.
