Alliteration was formed in February 2015 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our members are Xavier Anderson (guitar/lead vocals), Ryan Kealty (bass/vocals), and Michael Rodriguez (drums). We play a mixture of emo, post-hardcore, alternative rock, and indie rock. Our sound can be best likened to Say Anything and The Used. Our other collective influences include Microwave, older PUP, Balance and Composure, My Ticket Home, System of a Down. We try to write our music with crowd response in mind. Alliteration has released 2 LPs, 3 EPs, 2 split EPs, and many singles.
Alliteration formed when Kealty had met Mike and Xavier independently of each other. He received invites from both of them to jam. He thought of killing two birds with one stone, so he got the three of them together and the rest is history. We played our first show in March 2015 and promptly began playing any local show that we could get on. After about 8 months we started branching out to play shows out of state and went out on our first weekender in October of 2015. We started properly touring in 2017 and we would try to book a week+ long tour during winter and summer breaks.
While the pandemic was a major hit to us (as it was for everyone), all the time off allowed us to regroup and redirect our efforts. Since shows started back up in the spring/summer of 2021 we have truly reached our stride. Nowadays, we consistently play better shows with good turnouts, have sold a ton of merch, put out our first full-length album, got nominated for the Wavy Awards, and have gotten signed to a small label called Paintbox Records.
Alliteration embodies the DIY ethic. While we still commission outside help, if we can do it in house then we try to. We make almost all of our own merch, record and mix our own music, do our own booking, do our own marketing, and create much of our own artwork and graphic design. We have reached a point where our band is financially self-sustaining and actually makes a profit. Right now our current goals are to find a buy-on tour spot, try to arrange another split EP, book some weekenders, releasing a Christmas song, writing for an EP, and writing for an LP.
