Food is one of the most basic human needs. Without it, people cannot grow, learn, or thrive. Yet, even today, millions of people around the world still go to bed hungry. To address this challenge, the United Nations created Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2): Zero Hunger.

What does SDG 2 mean?
The goal is to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030. This means not only making sure that everyone has enough food, but also ensuring that the food people eat is safe and nutritious.

Why is it important?
• In 2023, around 735 million people faced hunger.
• Almost 2.3 billion people did not have regular access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
• Malnutrition remains a major challenge, especially for children, with millions suffering from stunting, wasting, or being overweight due to poor diets.

Key Focus Areas of SDG 2:
1. End all forms of hunger and malnutrition.
2. Double the productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers.
3. Ensure sustainable food production and resilient farming systems.
4. Maintain the genetic diversity of crops and livestock.
5. Prevent food price shocks and ensure fair access to food markets.

The Bigger Picture:
SDG 2 is not only about ending hunger — it is about building a fair and sustainable food system for the future. It connects with many other SDGs, including:
• SDG 1 (No Poverty): since poverty and hunger often go hand in hand.
• SDG 3 (Good Health): because better nutrition leads to healthier lives.
• SDG 13 (Climate Action): as climate change threatens food production.
