Just some prices of common food in San Juan, Puerto Rico from January 2019. Puerto Rico’s tax rate is 11.5%. The Jones Act makes goods all the more expensive. While yes, we are an island and imported goods bring up the price, our “imported” goods come from American vessels. Foreign vessels are not allowed into PR to directly ship our goods.
