Описание к видео Aotearoa 2021 Virtual SDG Summit: Foreseeable Future - Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction

Climate change and disaster risks pose a serious threat to communities physical, social, economic, and environmental conditions. The potential increase in occurrence and intensity of extreme weather events as a result of climate change, coupled with increasing population in vulnerable areas reinforces the need for improved prediction and forecasting for the foreseeable future are increasing. This allows for enhanced risk reduction measures to be implemented, as well as providing readiness for emergency responses. Understanding a foreseeable future would enable more informed decision making, allowing users the opportunity to put appropriate prevention in place.

Though the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR 2015-2030), Habitat III, Paris Agreement, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG 2030) share resilience building as their common goal, the activities and processes of these policies and frameworks are distinct, not very well-coordinated, and are often duplicated at the country level. A systemic (holistic) approach at the national level to integrate climate change, disaster risk, and sustainable development are necessary using an integrated database.

Foreseeable Future: Seamless Integration of Data to Enhance Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction (full title) is part of a fully recorded online programme containing 20+ interactive workshops, project showcases, Main Stage Plenary, SDG Alliance & SDG Declaration moments, and connection opportunities via sector-based kōrero.

See our website at https://www.sdgsummits.nz or head back to our YouTube channel to view the other Summit sessions and workshops. Our Youtube channel also hosts the recordings from the 2020 - 2021 series of online hui, which acted to build momentum towards the 2021 SDG Summit.

What are the SDG Summits?

The Aotearoa New Zealand Sustainable Development Goals Summits were inspired by people wanting to collaborate across sectors to drive meaningful change for the SDGs.

Summits have been held at the University of Victoria (2018) and the University of Auckland (co-hosted by Auckland University of Technology, 2019). The University of Canterbury and Lincoln University, along with Ara Institute and Christchurch City Council, have joined forces with a nation-wide Stakeholder Group to host the 2020-2021 Summit Series. The Summits have brought together people from civil society, government, the business community, and, with strong mana whenua and Pasifika input they have helped shape a uniquely Aotearoa New Zealand response.

These Summits will continue to 2030, when the Sustainable Development Goals mature.

There is still plenty of work to do in achieving a sustainable and just world though! YOU are invited to take part in this journey!

The 2021 SDG Summit, themed 'Collaboration for Systemic Change' was originally intended to be held in-person, at the University of Canterbury campus, in Otautahi Christchurch. Co-hosted by University of Canterbury and Lincoln University with support from Christchurch City Council and Ara Institute of Canterbury, we thanks our partners for enabling the pivot to the online space: ChristchurchNZ | Tourism New Zealand | New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO | Te Pokai Tara Universities NZ | UC Centre for Entrepreneurship | Seeds Podcast.
