Описание к видео The Byrds - Why - Guitar Cover - Bass Cover

The B-side of Eight Miles High, Why was recorded on 24 & 25 January 1966 and was released on 14 March 1966. It was a bit of a departure from folk rock, moving into the very young genre of Raga Rock, which a few bands had dipped their toes into in 1965. David Crosby was particularly interested in Ravi Shankar at this time and would go on to show Shankar to George Harrison. Essentially, Why was Crosby's attempt at an Indian raga combined with Rock music, with guitars and bass droning on a D note for a large portion of the song. Roger McGuinn's RIckenbacker certainly helped to created a more eastern atmosphere, playing bending lead lines in D Mixolydian on top while occasionally bending strings.

The timbre of the song was really new as well, with a much heavier compression on the 12 string than they had used previously. I tried to replicate this with the ModernFireChainer compression plugin in Audacity, but I had to pass it through 4 times to match the sound.

I recorded the everything through a Vox AC30CC2X.
