2023 GWM Tank 300 review: Punchy new turbo-petrol engine expands Jeep Wrangler 4WD rival's appeal

The 2023 GWM Tank 300 is now entering Australian showrooms. We already tested the new 4WD's 'self-charging' hybrid powertrain earlier this year, but now the time's come to see what its entry-level turbo-petrol engine has to offer.

The Jeep Wrangler rival's 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit has plenty of punch, producing 162kW of power and 380Nm of torque. That said, it doesn't reach the hybrid's 258kW/615Nm highs.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis tests the new petrol-powered Tank 300 on public roads to see if it has what it takes to handle family duties – it's a segment-straddling mid-size SUV, after all.
