Recently Chrysler sent out Recall information to specific owners for a Recall P80. Recall P80 has to do with the clutch pedal position switch. There have been reports of failures of the switch which would allow the vehicle to be started without depressing the clutch pedal. This could cause a dangerous situation if the vehicle was in gear at the time. The vehicle that I had in the shop was having this issue at the time. The repair is to replace the clutch pedal position switch and then varify that its working correctly. The vehicles involved are the 2006-2007 Dodge trucks which include the full size trucks as well as the Dakota. The Recall is specific to certain build dates and sales options. So to see if your vehicle is included in the recall feel free to contact your local Dodge dealer and have them check your VIN number to see if its one of the vehicles under the recall. If it is then this video will be informative in such a way as to show what the repair technician will need to do to repair it. If the vehicle does not fall under the recall then the video will help show you step by step what is needed to remove and replace the switch. The procedure is fairly simple once you know what to look for. You will be working under the dash during the entire repair. The switch is held in place by a white plastic cover that you may need to rotate the switch to find. The switch itself is on the clutch pedal rod itself and is just behind the clutch pedal itself. Once you remove the plastic cover that slides off the switch....you can then pull the switch out and off the rod. The electrical connector will need to be unplugged as well as described in the video. The new switch goes up onto the rod at an angle first and then flush up against the rod. Then the white plastic cover is reinstalled and slid back into place until the fingers lock into place. Finally the electrical connector is plugged back into place. To be sure the repair is correct, you need to make sure the shifter is in neutral and then attempt to start the vehicle without depressing the clutch pedal. The vehicle should not crank. Then recheck with the clutch pedal depressed.
