8,760 Samurais battle out with 1,800 Royal Marines at a choke-point. The Samurai generals were too over confident and believed there was no need to flank, instead go straight forward and overwhelm the enemy with numbers, it was the biggest tactical mistake. In the heat of battle; the Samurais became overwhelmed with fire power which caused confusion and panic within the ranks.

Among the Royal Marines were 200 pro-western Samurais, 8 Artillery, and 8 Gatling guns.
