Fixing Harbor Freight Air compressor with a can of beans - Tips from Tom - Mortons on the Move

My Air compressor pump decided to stop pumping recently when filling a tire. Since it was a harbor freight I was about to Just go get a new one when I decided to tear into it and see If i could fix it.

Turns out it was the little flap valve (the reed valve) on top of the piston had broken off and was not allowing for any compression to build up. My first fix i used a thin piece of aluminum from a pie pan that only lasted for a few seconds when the pump was run. The second attempt and the one i filmed i used a thicker piece of metal from a can beans. This has seemed to hold up quite well and the pump is still working. If it decides to quit I will come in here and edit the video description!

The pump I was working on was the harbor freight 150 PSI 12 Volt Item number 69285. This pump lasted about 2 years using it regularly to top off tires at 70 - 100 PSI. It has great volume and will fill a standard tire quickly. It gets pretty hot but all compressors do. Overall I have been quite happy with my purchase of this pump. Let me know if you have any questions!
