Hank and a team of doctors ultimately determined the "risk of playing before remedying [his] condition was too high" for him to suit up for the Washington Capitals this upcoming season. It would be a shame to see such a distinguished career come to an end so unexpectedly, but only time will tell. Health aside, this leaves a massive hole at goaltender for a Capitals team with high hopes of threatening for another Stanley Cup.

King Henrik previously played 15 seasons with the New York Rangers and won the Vezina Trophy in 2012 as the NHL's best goaltender. Lundqvist is the only goaltender in NHL history to record eleven 30-win seasons in his first 12 years and also holds the record for most wins by a European-born goaltender in the NHL.
