The cost of music school tuition has skyrocketed, topping out at nearly $100,000 per year, although quality education can be had for much less. Aspiring young musicians may rightly wonder whether the value proposition is there given the cost and the changing musical landscape, which may or may not make institutional music education a good fit for you. My perspective is based on a multi-decade career as a performer and educator, having watched several generations of music students make the transition to professional musician.
