When I first decided to conduct a cognitive research experiment (that's what buttons are to me) in my home with Flounder, I knew it would lead to me learning something new. Whether it be that animals can not actually communicate with buttons or that indeed they can, either way I would be answering a question I've had for a while.

When I first started I was a blank slate, well...not really a blank slate as much as I was a skeptic, but willing to try and be open minded and see where it took me, hoping it would take me down a path of less Flounder screams.

With that being said: I had expectations going into this because of the very amazing and very supportive Fluent Pet community, so I kind of had an idea of what was possible and how Flo might use the buttons. Like I knew she would ask for things and narrate life in general. It still catches me off guard when she comes up with a new name for something, but still within the realm of what I thought might be possible.

This interaction (a single button press) takes a hard exit out of that realm and before jumping down my throat and calling me a delusional Disney Princess you should know that I take this research very seriously because I have bigger goals with button use in the future and this is not something I would fake for views. I am much more interested in contributing to real research than getting views on social media.

This interaction happened a while back, actually, and I haven't put it out there because it was overwhelming and I wanted to be 1000% sure it was real before making it public. I'm honestly still having a difficult time wrapping my head around this interaction and if anyone has similar experiences of their pets translating for other pets I beg of you: please share them with me to make me feel like I'm not living with an actual alien.

One last note: Fiki does use the buttons when he feels like there is an emergency, but it's rare that he uses them, which was why Flounder had to step in as his translator.
