St. John's commit Shamorie Ponds, who finished with 23 points, took over and put the finishing touches on the win with a three-point play.

"I felt like that play put the game away, but CJ is the reason why we won today," Ponds said.

In the semifinals, Ponds and Jefferson will face the defending PSAL champions, Wings Academy, who defeated High School of Construction in their quarterfinal matchup.

"The only thing we can do differently is play harder," Pollard said.

The semifinal between Jefferson and Wings will be played at St. John's on Saturday with the winner going to the PSAL final at the Garden the following week.
