Sometimes mystical forces align

This story starts with a dub plate sample pack. One day, I was reviewing a sample pack from Hands and Hearts, and I heard a dub called “Crucial” from Noel Zebulon. The dub was so magical and powerful – I felt it would be perfect to voice some artists on.

I requested permission, which was granted, and we made the necessary agreements. I began circulating the rhythm to some of the singers I was working with.

Around the same time, Ras Teo called me – he wanted to get in touch with Akae Beka and he asked me for help. I made some inquiries and was soon on the phone with Akae Beka’s management lining up a recording session for Teo.

A few days later (and through a totally different link) I learned that Akae Beka had room for a couple more projects and there was a very short window to make requests. So I thought why not send him the Crucial rhythm and see if he liked it.

After the recording session, we got the vocals and sent them to Ini Oneness and Ras Muffet. They went into the studio and worked hard – it took time. When the mixes came back I thought wowww.

‘Stability’ has been one of our most popular dub plates – and has had many requests for release. There are some other excellent vocals on this rhythm as well – from Idren Natural, Fikir Amlak, Fred Locks, Prince Alla, and also a lesser-known California artist named Judah.
