4 things I do every day as a speech-language pathologist mom with my toddler—

🧸 Include him in daily tasks by giving him little jobs— there are SO many language opportunities in daily routines. he learns so much by helping & observing (ie “crack the eggs on the pan. the stove is hot. we don’t touch the stove.” he helps by cracking the eggs!)

🧸 Read books HE picks out— he LOVES reading books!! and is way more engaged when its the books he chooses. Sometimes we read all the words and other times we just talk about what we see in the pictures & make up our own story!

🧸 Use verbal routines + repeat simple phrases— I describe our actions throughout the day (ie “we’re brushing our teeth. brush brush brush!”) Verbal routines are saying the same thing, the same way, for the same activity!

🧸 Play with him and follow his lead— I let him choose what to play and I join in with him! I will comment on his actions (ie “you’re driving the BIG school bus. beep! the bus stopped. let’s go!”) I let him lead the play and I play too and model language as we go!

🧸 Share what you do everyday with your little one!
