Indian Parliament passed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 in December 2019 and the rules for the same were published after 4 years on 11th March 2024. Publishing the rules means the act comes into effect from the said date. This video explains the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 which is commonly known as 'CAA'. How the act proposes to give citizenship to illegal immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and from Non-Muslim communities who entered India before 31st December 2014. These illegal immigrants are considered refugees under the CAA Act. This video explains the logic behind the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. The video also explains the Indian constitutional provisions on citizenship along with the provisions of the original Citizenship Act of 1955. The video goes through the arguments for and against the current Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
