The Rebirth of a Filipino Identity.
The Baybayin alphabet, a writing system used by ancient Filipinos, is a testament to the country's rich cultural heritage. This abugida script, which had 17 symbols, was used in Tagalog areas before Spanish colonization. The native script, which was replaced by the Latin alphabet and Catholicism, was used in ceremonial and religious contexts. Despite being mostly superseded by the Latin alphabet in contemporary Filipino writing, Baybayin remains a symbol of identity and resilience, serving as a living piece of history and a monument to the perseverance of the Filipino people.
