There are a lot of ways to help your bright child that’s struggling in school. “The Learning Continuum” is used to visualize the different layers of how the brain receives and processes information.

It has 5 different levels: Content Area & Higher Level Learning, Basic Academic Skills, Executive Function Skills, Processing Skills, and Core Learning Skills.

Traditional schools and tutoring programs focus on the upper two levels – Content Area & Higher Level Learning, and Basic Academic Skills, which both focus on subject areas, refining and applying basic academic skills as well as study skills.

For the majority of students, this focus is appropriate and effective, and so this is what schools and tutors are educated in and practice. But for nearly 1/3 of all children, learning challenges impair the ability of the child to participate in school at the intellectual level that they, their parents and teachers know they are capable of.

That’s why the rest of The Learning Continuum is of such importance. We start working with children, correcting the deeper causes of learning difficulties, including Executive Function Skills – strategizing, organizing, and self-monitoring, Processing Skills- including memory, processing, auditory and visual processing speed, and Core Learning Skills – such as reflex integration, body awareness and control, visual skills, and attention awareness.
