No guides, no one around, just brutal altitude and the determination to reach the top.

Hands down one of the best day-hikes from La Paz.
In looking for an acclimatisation hike for Huyana Potosi, we discovered Austria Peak, or as the locals call it, Pico Austria.

It took us approximately 2 hrs in a taxi from La Paz to the start point, La Rinconada.

All the articles we read said this hike was spectacular, but we were still blown away by the beauty of the Andean scenery all around us, in particular the view of Pico Condoriri.

Being a similar height to Everest Base Camp, Pico Austria wasn't a walk in the park due to the altitude, however, the technical difficulty was moderate at best.
This and the views make Austria Peak one of the best day hikes from La Paz.
