This album, written between 2022 and 2024, is thematically a continuation of the previous album (Genetic Grief).
It explores the past through the lens of our ancestors and is a link to the present.
One of the bridges linking the past and the present is nature.
Nature, which has witnessed everything, has seen everything and brings the knowledge and stories of our ancestors to us. In this album, the focus is on the ancient Georgian tree cult, which existed in Georgia before our era. Our ancestors believed that the souls of dead people moved into the tree branches and leaves.
To me, this is the most beautiful formulation of the state after death among all the versions presented by religions. The nature of Georgia holds many secrets; my goal and desire is to delve as deeply as possible into these stories and to feel them as intensely as possible.
The album begins with an instrumental track, "The Foggy Mountains of the Caucasus." This is a starter and preparation for the listener to feel the air and atmosphere that is occuring on top of the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia and to get ready for a journey through Georgia's forests and legends.
Several tracks are inspired by ancient Georgian legends. For example, the third track "The Mountains Are My Refuge ( დეცე ლახვრა)", “Detse Lakhvra” is a Svan legend. In the Svan language, “Detse Lakhvra” means the window of the sky. This is a legend about the opening of the sky, from which angels and shadows descend.
The album often mentions ravens and an old graves. When I was little, my parents took me to the grave of a very old ancestor, which was abandoned. When we found it, everything was covered with thorns and after cleaning it, I found a dead, very large black raven with its wings spread out to their full length. This incident and visual left a lasting impression on me and is forever etched in my memory.
In one of the tracks, "The Roots Of A Sacred Tree," I use the phrase, "An abandoned grave and raven, tells the story of their glory." I wrote this phrase and this track specifically about this story. This album is about immense pain and at the same time, it is about hope, about finding new strength within oneself. I get all this mostly from nature.
It is a physical and spiritual journey of a person, experiencing the pain that our country, nature, and genetics have endured for so many centuries. Our history and our land carry a lot of pain, resembling an old abandoned fortress, the dome of which has collapsed, the walls have been destroyed, but beneath the ground, the sacred oak roots are still moving and awakening the past with the hope of the future.
