Expedition Everest Is A Steel Roller Coaster Built By Ride Manufacturer Vekoma At Disney's Animal Kingdom At The Walt Disney World Resort In Orlando, Florida. The Ride Soft Opened On January 26th 2006 With It's Official Opening Date On April 7th 2006. The Ride's Maximum Height Is 199 ft With The Biggest Drop Of 80 ft, The Maximum Speed Of 50 Mph, No Inversions, A Ride Time Of 2 Minutes & 50 Seconds, A G Force Of 3.0. The Ride Has 6 Trains With 6 Cars With Total 34 Riders Per Train, The Trains Have Lap Bars As It Does Not Go Upside Down & Also The Ride Has A Single Rider Line. Expedition Everest Is Often Compared To The 1959 Matterhorn Roller Coaster At Disneyland Which Also Features A Snowy Mountain Setting & An Abominable Snowman Figure Throughout The Ride.

The Attraction Was Announced Publicly On April 22nd 2003 During An Event To Celebrate The 5th Anniversary Of Disney's Animal Kingdom. Construction Of The New Attraction Began A Month Before The Announcement In March 2003, It Is The Only Roller Coaster At Disney's Animal Kingdom & The Tallest Roller Coaster At Any Disney Theme Park. The 2011 Edition Of Guinness World Records Lists Expedition Everest As The Most Expensive Roller Coaster In The World. Including Sets & Extras, It's Total Cost Was Reported To Be 100 Million Dollars For 6 Years Of Planning & Construction. It Held This Record Up Until 2019 When The 300 Million Dollar Attraction Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Opened At Universal's Islands Of Adventure.

It Is The Tallest Artificial Mountain In All Of The Walt Disney Parks & Disney's 18th Mountain Themed Attraction. It's The Tallest Attraction At Walt Disney World Beating The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror At Disney's Hollywood Studios By 6 Inches. Disney Keeps All It's Attraction Buildings Under 200ft Because Aviation Laws Require Structures Of That Height & Taller To Have A Blinking Red Light Beacon For Low Flying Aircraft's Which Would Take Away The Theming In Their Attraction.

Although Moderate In Height & Length By Contemporary Standards, Expedition Everest Was The 1st Ride For Disney To Have It's Trains Travel Both Forward & Backwards. This Is Accomplished Through 2 Sets Of Track Switches. The Mountain Facade, The Yeti Audio Animatronic & The Roller Coaster Are 3 Independent Structures. Each Structure Reaches The Ground Level & Does Not Touch The Other 2 Structures. This Was Achieved Via A 4-D Scheduling Software That Provided The Exact Details On How To Construct It.

The Yeti Located In The Mountain Is The Largest & Most Complex Audio Animatronic Figure Ever Built By Walt Disney Imagineering. It Is 25 Foot Tall. It Moves It's Arms Towards The Track & Guests Riding Will Get The Feel That They Are About To Get Grabbed By It As They Ride Under Him. The Yeti's Roars Are Provided By Voice Actor Fred Tatasciore, Famous For His Work As The Hulk In Numerous Animated Shows & Films. A Few Months After The Ride Opened In 2006, The Yeti Figure Began To Malfunction Alot & Changed Into A Mode Where It Would No Longer Move But Given A Strobe Light Effect To Give It The Effect He Is Still Moving With Now Having The Nickname Disco Yeti. It Is Unlikely The Yeti Will Be Repaired Unless A Long & Major Refurbishment Happened.

Joe Rohde, The Imagineer In Charge Of Building The Attraction & Animal Kingdom Was Asked About The Yeti At The 2013 Disney D23 Expo. Rohde Responded "You Have To Understand, It's A Giant Complicated Machine Sitting Inside A Big & Complicated Building So It's Really Hard To Fix But We Are Working On It & We Continue To Work On It, I Will Fix The Yeti Someday, I Swear." Rohde Retired From Walt Disney Imagineering On January 4, 2021 Never Having Completed The Repairs To The Yeti Animatronic

Expedition Everest Won The 2006 Theme Park Insider Award For The Worlds Best New Theme Park Attraction. It Has Also Been Ranked In The Golden Ticket Awards & The Best Roller Coaster Poll. It Was Ranked 2nd For Best New Ride For 2006 In The Golden Ticket Awards
