Iran president missing after helicopter crash

A helicopter carrying the Iranian president suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday, Iranian state media reported.

The helicopter was travelling in a convoy of three. State TV asked people to pray for President Raisi. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties in the accident. Poor weather was making it difficult for rescuers to reach the site, with state media reporting rain and fog.

Raisi was travelling with Hossein Amirabdollahian, the foreign minister. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
