Tools & Materials Needed
 Ethernet cable (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.)
 RJ45 connectors (8P8C)
 Crimping tool (for RJ45)
 Wire stripper or scissors
 Cable tester (optional, but recommended)
Wiring Standards


Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the cable to the desired length.
o Use a wire cutter to get a clean, flat cut.
2. Strip about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the outer jacket.
o Be careful not to nick the internal wires.
3. Untwist the wire pairs and straighten them.
o Arrange them in the order of the wiring standard you're using
(usually T568B).
4. Trim the wires evenly.
o They should be about 0.5 inch (1.25 cm) long from the jacket.
5. Insert the wires into the RJ45 connector.
o Keep the clip side facing down. Each wire must go fully into its
channel.
6. Crimp the connector.
o Use the crimping tool to firmly press the connector onto the cable.
7. Repeat for the other end.
o Use the same wiring standard for straight-through; use T568A on
one end and T568B on the other for crossover cables.
8. Test the cable.
o Use a cable tester to verify all connections are correct.

 If you're making cables for internet/network use, use T568B on both
ends.
 Keep the twists in the pairs as close to the connector as possible to reduce
crosstalk.
 Use shielded connectors and cable for areas with high electrical
interference.
